The present study involves Pre and Post Counselling assessment of the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of gastroenteritis patients. It is an observational study to determine the KAP of gastroenteritis in the GM department.58 patients of the adult age group (above 18 years) of both genders, was included. The KAP was assessed using the Self-constructed KAP Questionnaire and patient information leaflet. Mean, standard deviation, student t-test and chi-square test were used to analyze the data. In the study, out of 58 study subjects, 19% shows satisfactory KAP and 81% unsatisfactory KAP. After patient counseling, the overall KAP score improved to 86%. The standard deviation and mean of Knowledge attitude and practice of patients was found to be 8±5.88, 13.2±4.92, 14.57±2.88 before counseling. After patient counseling, KAP was found to be improved 42.71±3.9, 46.2±3.52 and 42.57±5.38. P values before and after counseling were found to be statistically significant (p <0.05) i.e., had a p-value of below 0.05. The study proved that providing patient education can assist in the achievement of optimum therapeutic outcomes in disease management. The KAP was achieved using a self-constructed questionnaire and results reveal a significant improvement in KAP among both the groups following counseling. Providing counseling to the patients would prove to be beneficial in improving their KAP of GE and thus reducing the prevalence of GE in the study population.
Aishwarya S, Allu Rachel Kurien, Anjaly Sivakumar, Brijit Maria, Chaitra G, Parthasarathy Govindasamy Copyright (c) 2023 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ https://scienztech.org/index.php/ijmt/article/view/1466 Wed, 25 Jan 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Importance of Medicinal Plants in Naturopathy - An Ethanomedicinal Studies from Soligas Tribes of Chamarajanagar - Karnataka https://scienztech.org/index.php/ijmt/article/view/1486
Naturopathy - “nature cure” meaning treatment of suffering or disease via nature. It has great health promotive, disease preventive and curative as well as restorative potential. Naturopathic treatment modalities include Ethnobotany. An Ethnomedicinal survey was carried out among the Soligas tribals in Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka, India. Traditional uses of 61 plant species belonging to 33 families are described under this study through the interview and informal discussion with 54 tribal healers. In this communication, the informations got from the rural inhabitant were compared with the already existing literature. The medicinal plants were mostly used to cure asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, skin and sex-related diseases etc. The medicinal plants used by people are arranged alphabetically followed by Botanical name, family, Voucher specimen number, Local name, Part used, mode of preparation, Medicinal use and Major chemical constituents are discussed.
Venkatesan K, Murugeswarn R, Mokhtar Alam, Rampradap Meena A, Zaheer Ahamed N Copyright (c) 2023 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ https://scienztech.org/index.php/ijmt/article/view/1486 Wed, 01 Feb 2023 00:00:00 +0000 Development of electrocardiographic anomalies and arrhythmias in adult beta-thalassemia major patients throughout the course of a brief follow-up https://scienztech.org/index.php/ijmt/article/view/1490
Thalassemia major (TM) is an inherited blood disorder characterized by chronic anemia due to a lack of production of the necessary globin chains for hemoglobin. To ensure optimal survival, individuals with this condition require regular and ongoing blood transfusions and iron chelation therapy. Excessive iron accumulation can lead to cardiac siderosis, resulting in heart failure and irregular heart rhythms, which are the primary causes of mortality in TM patients. Therefore, it is crucial to identify early signs of cardiac involvement in thalassemia in order to provide preventive and therapeutic interventions. The objective of this study was to observe the progression of abnormal electrocardiographic patterns and arrhythmias in TM patients over a period of 12 months at a tertiary care hospital in India. All participants underwent 24-hour ECG Holter monitoring. The 24-hour recordings were carefully analyzed to identify different types of heartbeats (normal and abnormal), as well as any interference or artifacts. This suggests that the ECG repolarization and autonomic function issues in TM patients without obvious heart failure persist over a short-term follow-up period. While many of these events do not cause symptoms, the occurrence of supraventricular ectopy (abnormal heartbeats originating above the ventricles) and the burden of atrial fibrillation (AF) in this group seem to be severe and develop within a relatively short timeframe of 12 months. Therefore, it is crucial to closely monitor and detect arrhythmias in these patients. Future studies with longer follow-up periods and more comprehensive ECG monitoring will undoubtedly provide a clearer understanding of the specific impact and prognostic significance of certain ECG and arrhythmic markers in this particular context.
Satya Sree RNS, Sai Sree RNV, Pravallika Medepudi, Sujana Tumpala, Shaik Fathima, Suhrutt Duggirala Copyright (c) 2023 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ https://scienztech.org/index.php/ijmt/article/view/1490 Fri, 03 Feb 2023 00:00:00 +0000
