Abstract

The most dangerous heavy metals are Pb, Hg, As, Cd, Sn, Cr, Zn and Cu. These metals are retarding farming efficiency and destructing the health of the plants and animals.In recent years, scientists and engineers have started to generate cost effective technologies that include use of microorganisms/biomass or live plants to clean polluted areas.Phytoremediation uses plants to cleanup contaminatedsoil and ground water, taking advantage of plants'natural abilities to take up, accumulate, and/or degradeconstituents of their soil and water environments. Major advantages reported for phytoremediation as compared to traditional remediation technologies include the possibility of generating less secondary wastes, minimal associated environmental disturbance, and the ability to leave soils in place and in a usable condition following treatment. The objective of the experiment is to study the potential ability of Brassica juncea plantfor remediationof heavy metalsfrom the 200ppm concentration of Chromium, Copper, Cadmium and Leadspiked soils.
