RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BLOOD GROUPS AND ANAEMIA: A CASE STUDY

Abstract

From ancient times, blood was considered to have rejuvenating and curative properties. Blood is a mysterious life sustaining fluid, without which our organs couldn’t get oxygen & nutrients. In modern medicine blood transfusion is an important measure for replacing (hypo haemorrhagic anaemia, acute haemorrhagic anaemia, hyper haemorrhagic anaemia and chronic haemorrhagic anaemia) blood loss. In the present case research was envisaged to assess the relationship between the various blood groups and anaemia. 600 blood samples were collected from Government Degree College & Hospital, Nandyal, Kurnool Dt, Andhra Pradesh, India. In the present research, heamoglobin from the above samples was estimated by using Sahli’s method and for determination of blood groups glass slide method is followed. During the study period the highest incidence of anaemia was observed in ‘O-(ve)’ group which may be associated more with development of anaemia followed by blood group ‘B’.
