Abstract
In the present study, celecoxib topical gel formulations were prepared and the aim of investigation is to study the effect of dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) on permeability of celecoxib topical gel formulation. During the study various concentrations of DMSO were used, keeping drug, polymer and excipients concentration unchanged. Celecoxib topical gel formulation is used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in which celecoxib is a non-steroidal anti–inflammatory agent that exhibits antiinflammatory, analgesic & antipyretic activities with selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitory activity. It inhibits the cyclooxygenase-2 isoform, decreasing the production of prostaglandin E2 at the site of inflammation. Five formulations (F1-F5) were prepared and celecoxib gel was evaluated for physical appearance, pH, spreadability, viscosity and in-vitro drug release to study the effect of penetration enhancer. Among all the formulations F5 exhibited 98.98% drug release and exhibited highest drug concentration for 12hr period.
