EVALUATION OF ANTHELMINTIC ACTIVITY OF PONGAMIA PINNATA

Abstract

The present research work was aimed to evaluate the physicochemical, phytochemical, and pharmacological activity of Pongamia pinnata (Family- Fabaceae) and to identify and evaluate the natural source for healing helminthiasis. The present study also aims to evaluate the screening effects of Pongamia pinnata. for its Anthelmintic activity. Ethyl acetate extract of Pongamia pinnata showed significant activity when compared to other extracts. The physicochemical constituents like ash values (4.5%), water extractive values (14%), loss on drying (1.8%), fluorescence analysis and the phytochemical studies such as preliminary phytochemical screening of Pongamia pinnata will be helpful in developing pharmacopoeial standards for the global acceptance. These properties of Pongamia pinnata justify its use as a better choice of natural drug in the treatment of helminthiasis.
