Abstract

Schiff bases are excellent ligands which are synthesized from the condensation of primary amines with carbonyl groups. These compounds are very important in medicinal and pharmaceutical area because of their wide spectrum of biological value. The schiff’s base has been synthesised by refluxing the reaction mixture of sulphamethoxazole with different aromatic aldehydes (benzaldehyde, p-dimethyl amino benzaldehye, anisaldehyde, and vanillin) for about 2-3 hours at 60-700C. Synthesized compounds A, B, C and D were characterized by using U.V and I.R, NMR and Mass spectroscopy. Synthesized compounds were screened for their Antibacterial and antioxidant activity. Compound C and D possess excellent activity.
