PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING, ISOLATION AND EVALUATION OF ANTI ARTHRITIC ACTIVITY ON THE LEAVES OF VITEX NEGUNDO LINN.

Abstract

Vitex negundo Linn. Family (Verbenaceae) has been used in Indian and Chinese traditional medicines against carious ailments. To demonstrate the Anti Arthritic Activity of Ethanolic extract of Vitex negundo Linn. .(VNL) (Crude) and Isolated compound arthritis was induced in wistar rats using formaldehyde. We used various hematological parameters to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. They were supported by histological study of the affected ankle joints using heamatoxylin and eosin, radiological studies and percentage inhibition of paw volume. Result suggested that oral dosage of 10mg/kg isolated compound and 200mg/kg crude extract of Vitex negundo Linn. Exhibited Anti Arthritic Activity in Formaldehyde induced arthritis rats. We concluded that the Vitex negundo Linn. Demonstrates a significant Anti – Arthritic Activity.
