INVITRO ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTI INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY OF HYDRO METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF LEAVES OF Syzygium jambos (L) Alston

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the anti oxidant property and anti inflammatory activity of hydro methanolic extract of leaves of Syzygium jambos (L) alston (SJM) by Invitro methods. Extraction of dried leaves carried out with hydro methanol in soxhelet apparatus. Extract was evaluated for antioxidant and anti inflammatory studies as per standard procedures. Hydromethanolic extract of SJM shows strong anti oxidant properties , Scavenging activity of SJM leaves extract was increased in dose dependent manner, IC 50 values of DPPH assay, Nitric oxide assay, lipid peroxidation assay 41±1.8 , 63 ± 1.6 ,548±20 , value s are significant when compared with standard. Total antioxidant capacity of SJM extract was found to be 590.30µgAE/gm. SJM leaves extract also shows sign ificant Anti inflammatory activity in the assay of Hyaluronidase inhibition, percentage of inhibition and were calculated for 0.1 µg/ml; 0.5 µg/ml , 1 µg/ml of SJM leaves extract (2.05%,13.04%, 60.80% ). So the above results of SJM leaves extract shows stong antioxidant activity and anti inflammatory activity when compared with standard.
