Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the informal and formal employees' mental health in Iran Insurance Company. It was a casual-comparative research. Statistical population involved all informal and formal employees in Iran Insurance Company in Tehran. 351 employees (174 informal and 177 formal employees) were selected according to Krejcie and Morgan's table as the sample by stratified random sampling. Goldberg's General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) was used to collect data. Statistical analyses performed to analyze data included Mann- Whitney U Test and Kruskal-Wallis H Test. The findings indicated that there was a significant difference between informal and formal employees' mental health and informal employees' mental health was lower than formal em- ployees' mental health (P ≤ .05), but there was not a significant differences between mental health subscales (physical symptoms, anxiety and insomnia, social insufficient interaction and depression) (P > .05). Also, there was not a significant difference between mental health of informal and formal employees based on gender, marital status, age, work experience and income level (P > .05). So, it was recommended that Iran Insurance Company' managers protect their informal employees to increase their mental health.
