Abstract

Background and purpose: Religious coping is that the people of rituals and religious beliefs to cope with their diffi- culties and pressures of life. This study aimed to assess the religious coping and mental health was conducted in patients with myocardial infarction Religious coping is a method in which people get help from rituals and reli- gious belief to cope with their difficulties and pressures of life. This study was carried out with the purpose of as- sessing the relationship between religious coping and mental health in patients with myocardial infarction. Meth- ods and Materials: This descriptive study was done on 225 patients with myocardial infarction hospitalized in CCU of Imam Khomeini Hospital of Jiroft in 2014. Data was collected by a three-part questionnaire containing demo- graphic, religious coping and general health (GHQ-28) characteristics. Data analysis was done using chi-square test and with the help of SPSS v. 17 and p<0.05 was considered as significant. Results:In this study, 65% of the sample was female and 35% male with an average age of 59±12.8. 63% of the study unit in terms of the use of religious coping was moderate, 7.26 percent was strong and 10.3 percent was weak, and statistically a significant relation- ship was found between religious coping and mental health (p <0.05). Discussion: If people with the sicknesses have practical faith, can cope with illness and can easily deal with death phenomenon.
