Abstract
The purpose of this research was evaluation of the relationship between psychological well-being and happiness with educational progress of girl and boy high school students in the city of Darehshahr in the 2014-2015 academ- ic year. Research method was descriptive and correlational. Statistical population of this research included all students in the high schools of Darehshahr which are 2020 individuals. In this study, multi step random cluster sampling was used to select 200 individuals (100 girls and 100 boys) from the students. Research instruments included the Ryff psychological well-being questionnaire (84 item form) and the Oxford happiness questionnaire (29 items) and use of students’ last year’s grade point average. Statistical analysis of collected data was per- formed with help of SPSS software and use of statistical methods of independent t-test and multivariate regres- sion analysis. This research showed that mean scores of happiness and psychological well-being of girls were 86/21 and 354/67 respectively and mean scores of happiness and psychological well-being of boys were 80/55 and 325/57 respectively. With one unit increase in the score of educational progress, the score for psychological well-being increases by 0/33 units. Educational progress is effective on happiness. Yet, the reverse namely happi- ness does not have effect on educational progress. Additionally, results showed that meaningful correlation exist- ed between gender and psychological well-being (P<0/05). In other words, psychological well-being leads to edu- cational progress. Yet, meaningful correlation does not exist between educational progress and happiness and between educational progress and living location (city or village) (P>0/05).
