Abstract
Objective: Chronic pain, including physical illness that is associated with numerous psychological consequences We aimed to investigate the moderator effect of emotional expressiveness (expressing negative emotion) in the relationship between coping and depression in patients with chronic pain patients in Tehran. Methods: 161 indi- viduals with chronic pain disorders among patients referred to hospitals in Tehran were selected by available sampling and responded to the questionnaire of emotional expressiveness (EEQ), the short form of the question- naire cope with stressful situations (CISS) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The regression analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Results of regression analyzes indicate that %0.43 of the observed variance in the depression scores is explained by the moderator effect of emotional expressiveness (expressing negative emo- tion). Results showed that emotional expressiveness (expressing negative emotion), coping styles and Moderator effects of emotional expressiveness (expressing negative emotion) was significantly explain the variance in de- pression. Conclusion: Emotional expressiveness (expressing negative emotion) has a moderating role in the rela- tionship between coping styles and depression. Therefore empowering patients in the using of the effective cop- ing strategies Instead of dysfunctional coping strategies and also expressing the negative emotions which is asso- ciated with these disorders and disabilities and limitations which caused by chronic pain; can reduce the incidence of symptoms of depression disorder.
