Abstract

All creatures, including human beings, are able to repair some things in the body. But this process is more evolved in lower organisms such as plants, protists and a lot of invertebrates such as earthworms and starfish. Reconstruction of a member needs advanced controls so that the growth of organs does not get out of control. For example, human is equipped with immune mechanisms that deter uncontrolled growth of cells or their, so called, getting cancerous. However, mammalian rebuilt their muscle skin and blood. Not all organisms restore their organs the same way. In plants and animals such as jellyfish and hydra, the missing parts are replaced with adjacent tissues. Animals with very complex organs usually regenerate damaged parts by creating a special bud or blastema in that place. Blastema provides the needed tissue to rebuild the area.
