Abstract

The research work deals with the screening of methanolic extract of Anogeissus acuminate and Gymnosporia emerginata leaves for central nervous system (CNS) depressant activity. The Anogeissus acuminate leaves known to contain Angeissnin and anogeiss using A and B, As flavones ellgitannins as chemical components and is reported to have Anti-HIV,anti oxidant and Anticancer activity. Gymnosporia emerginata leaves contain emarginatine G  and emarginatine as pyridine alkaloids as chemical components and is reported to have anti tumor, anti bacterial activity. Since leaves of Anogeissus acuminate and Gymnosporia emerginata used as flock medicine in treatment of Diabetes, Gastroenteritis, Cancer, we attempted to study its CNS depressant effect. The result of the study re- flected that methanol extract of the leaves (300mg/kg. ip ) decreased locomotor activity and showed anti-anxiety activity.
