Abstract

Aconitum leave an alpine herb of genus Aconitum (family Ranunculaceae) has been identified as a traditional med- icine by some ethnic groups of Central Himalayas. The H2O extract derived from the aerial parts of the plant has been used to cure various forms of inflammatory diseases, joint pains, arthritis, anesthetics and nuerodisorders. Looking on the traditional medicinal uses of herbs as an anti-inflammatory remedies, the antioxidant principles were isolated from activity–guided catechol grouping flavonoids from n-BuOH fractions of Aconitum laeve. The n- BuOH soluble from MeOH-H2O(1:1) extract of the herb afforded two flavonol glycosides, quercetin -3-O-ß-D- glucopyranoside -7-O-ά-L-rhamnoside (1) and quercetin-3-O-rutinoside-7-O-rhamnoside (2).The antioxidant activi- ty of the compounds were observed by quenching of the fluorescence DPPH at 517nm in UV-VIS spectrophotome- ter. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by UV,1HNMR,MS and 13CNMR methods.
