Abstract

A series of Schiff bases of isatin (1H-indole-2,3-dione) and sulfadiazine were prepared and screened for their anti- convulsant acitivity. The compounds were tested for maximal electroshock (MES), subcutaneous metrozol (ScMET), 6Hz induced seizures and rotorod neurotoxicity. (Z)-N-(5-bromo-2-oxo-indolin-3-ylideneamino)-N-(5,6- dimethoxy pyrimidin-4-yl) benzene sulfonamide was most active in MES tests at a dose of 300 mg/kg-1 and 100 mg/kg respectively. It was also orally active. This compound showed no neurotoxicity at a maximum dose of 300 mg/kg-1. All the compounds were inactive in chemically induced metrazol seizures.
