Abstract
The aim of present study was to develop and validate a simple, precise and rapid HPLC method for the quantifica- tion of acetylated arjunolic acid a derivative of arjunolic acid from Termnalia arjuna bark extracts. The analysis was performed by reverse-phase chromatography on C8 columns with isocratic elution of Methanol and water; pH is 4.7 adjust with acetic acid (6:4) at a flow rate of 1.0mL/min, a column temperature of 35°C, photodiode array de- tector detection at 205 nm. The method validated in terms of linearity accuracy precision LOD, LOQ and stability. Acetylated arjunolic acid is synthesized by acetylating Arjunolic acid. The linear range of method was 0.2-1.2mg/ml with correlation coefficient of 0.999, the recovery was 98.7-101.19% and the relative standard deviation is 0.98 % (n=6). Antioxidant activity of The Acetylated Arjunolic acid, Arjunolic acid, BHT and Vitamin-E using Thiobarbituric acid method (TBA). The Acetylated Arjunolic acid showing more antioxidant activity compare to Arjunolic acid, BHT and Vitamin-E. The developed method was found to be a relatively simple, precise and reproducible for the quantification of Acetylated Arjunolic acid. The method does not employ any derivatization procedure and can be used as a quality control tool for the routine analysis of Acetylated Arjunolic acid.
