Abstract

Stone formation in the kidney is one of the oldest and most wide spread diseases known to man. This study was to evaluate the anti-urolithiatic activity of Raphnus sativus.L and Viscum articulatum Burm.F with that of standard drug cystone. This study proved Fresh juice, aqueous and alcoholic extract of both plants executed on generated calcium oxalate crystals by homogenous precipitation method for in-vitro anti-urolithiatic activity. The exiting fact came out of the study is that the Fresh juice, aqueous and alcoholic extract of Raphnus sativus/ Viscum articulatum showed significantly (p<0.001) increased % dissolution of calcium oxalate levels when compared with control and also equal potential as compared to standard drug cystone in dissolving the artificial stone crystals even in the crude form. Thus the present study provides a scientific rationale for the traditional use of this plant in the management of Urolithiasis.
