Abstract

Ethanolic extract of Cassia alata and Tectona grandis leaves were studied for its antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus subsp.aureus (MTCC 96), Salmonella enteritidis (MTCC 3219), Escherichia coli (MTCC 723), Pasteurella multocida subsp.multocida (MTCC 1161) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MTCC 741). Disc diffusion method and broth dilution technique were used to check antimicrobial activity. The phytochemical analysis re- vealed the presence of some bioactive components, which have been linked to antimicrobial properties. The pre- sent study suggests that the leaves of Cassia alata and Tectona grandis may have potential for use as antimicro- bial agent in the treatment of infectious disease.
